The CNC Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC and manual machining equipment to produce precision tooling and machined components. This role requires solid technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to independently complete complex machining work while following established processes. The Build (Responsibilities)
- Program, set up, and operate CNC and manual machining equipment including lathes, mills, drill presses, and grinders to manufacture tooling and precision components.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and specifications to determine machining methods, tooling requirements, and setup sequences.
- Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs using G and M code, with hands on experience using MasterCam or similar CAM software.
- Set up fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and workholding devices to ensure accurate and repeatable machining operations.
- Perform in process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
- Calculate dimensions, tolerances, and offsets using shop math and applied machining knowledge.
- Monitor machine performance during operation, making adjustments to feeds, speeds, and tooling to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot routine machining, tooling, and program issues, escalating more complex problems as needed.
- Follow all safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, tooling, and production teams to support process improvements and consistent output.
The Toolbox (Qualifications)
- 3 to 7 years of experience as a CNC Machinist in a tooling or precision machining environment.
- Working knowledge of CNC programming, setup, and operation using Mastercam or similar CAM software
- Experience with Mazak or Fanuc controls preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and machining specifications.
- Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection tools.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while following established machining standards and processes.
