The Blueprint (Role Profile)

Reporting to the Sr. Manager Domestic Tax Compliance & Reporting, the Manager of Sales and Use Tax will have primary responsibility for all aspects of state and local sales and use taxes as well as Canada GST/HST taxes.  This position will work closely with various internal finance departments and information technology (IT).  Successful candidates will have proven process development experience as well as excellent tax technical skills.

The Build (Responsibilities)

• Responsible for overseeing the organization’s indirect tax compliance and planning activities in both the United States and Canada
• Ensuring compliance with sales tax, use tax, GST and HST taxes
• Responsible for Vertex implementations and maintenance of Vertex Tax Decision Maker
• Manage relationships with consultants for various indirect tax projects
• Oversee all sales and use tax audits
• Manage exemption certificates to ensure compliance
• Conduct tax research and analysis to guide business decisions for US and Canada business transactions
• Provide training and support to internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations and journal entries

The Toolbox (Qualifications)

• BS or BA in accounting or finance is preferred
• Knowledge of SAP and Vertex are preferred
• 6-8 years' experience sales tax matters
• Excellent analytic skills and the ability to communicate complex tax issues effectively
• Experience in tax audits showing an understanding of tax audit techniques and the ability to advocate favorable outcomes
• High degree of data analytics skills
• Strong project management skills
• Adapts well to a continually changing environment
• Less than 10% domestic travel required
