The Blueprint (Role Profile)

Apex Tool Group is currently looking for an Electronics Technician III based in Lexington, SC. The scope of work includes development and fabrication of fixtures and product prototypes which contain mechanical, electro-mechanical, pneumatic and electronic components.

This position reports directly to the R&D Lab Manager, supporting new product development and sustaining engineering for industrial tool products.

The Build (Responsibilities)

  • Serve as a key contributor to the development, support, and troubleshooting of electronic systems and diagnostic platforms used in Cleco’s cordless hand-held power assembly tools
  • Troubleshoot and repair analog/digital circuits, PCBs, and embedded control systems at the component level
  • Conduct inspections and verification of electronic assemblies, documenting findings and corrective actions
  • Perform functional and performance testing of electronic assemblies, assisting with stress and environmental evaluations
  • Build, maintain, and improve test fixtures, wiring harnesses, and diagnostic setups for validation and production support
  • Support PLC programming, wiring, and troubleshooting (Click, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
  • Operate and maintain electronic measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, etc.)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design, integration, and performance issues
  • Maintain lab safety protocols and contribute to continuous improvement of procedures and documentation
  • Record test results, debug logs, and repair activities using structured documentation practices. 

The Toolbox (Qualifications)

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of equivalent hands-on experience in electronics troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair, ideally within an industrial or R&D environment.
  • Skilled in soldering (through-hole and surface mount), cable assembly, and rework techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and component datasheets
  • Understanding of analog/digital electronics, signal integrity, and component-level debugging
  • Exposure to embedded systems and microcontroller platforms, especially STM32; Arduino and PIC experience a plus
  • Exposure to PLCs and industrial control systems (Click, Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems, sensors, actuators, and integration
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with scripting tools is a plus
  • Strong documentation skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a regulated environment
