The Blueprint (Role Profile)
As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer for Apex Tool Group, you will be part of a global, diverse team that is truly dedicated to anticipating and reshaping how tools are made tomorrow – with higher quality at better cost. Your core responsibility will be to develop and improve mechanical systems in support of our new product development with a focus on plastic part design and integration within a full mechanical assembly. You will be involved in all design-related aspects of the projects from concept to beyond production.
The Build (Responsibilities)
Engineering & Design
- Design, model, and release mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms for custom fastening systems using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools.
- Develop fastening modules and sub‑assemblies including torque‑controlled fastening devices, high‑strength mechanical joints, adaptive fastening components, and custom fixtures.
- Translate customer requirements, engineering specifications, and manufacturing constraints into robust mechanical solutions.
- Create detail drawings, tolerance stack‑ups, and full documentation packages.
Product Development & Testing
- Support prototype development, mechanical testing, system validation, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct failure analysis and recommend engineering improvements.
- Assist in evaluating electro‑mechanical or sensor‑integrated fastening devices.
Technical Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide engineering support for existing fastening product lines, including design updates and production improvements.
- Participate in engineering change orders and documentation control.
- Work from prior designs, sketches, and engineering guidance to update or refine system designs.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Project Engineers, Manufacturing, Quality, and Customer teams.
- Support technical reviews and customer discussions.
Additional Responsibilities
- Define and prepare **Request for Quote (RFQ) content**, including scope definition, technical requirements, subsystem specifications, and engineering deliverables.
- Lead or support **feasibility and fit confirmation** studies for fastening system solutions, ensuring technical compatibility with customer applications, assembly constraints, and performance expectations.
The Toolbox (Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Proven experience with industrial fastening systems, mechanical tooling, or assembly‑line equipment.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software.
- Solid understanding of mechanical design principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Travel: 5–10%
