The Blueprint (Role Profile)

 

The Sr. Director, Distribution is responsible for distribution across North America, including but not limited to performance metrics such as safety, quality, delivery, cost, and inventory. This position will also be responsible for standardizing and streamlining processes, distribution infrastructure, and investments for all direct and dotted line distribution facilities. Additionally, this position will act as the internal subject matter expert in developing a roadmap that addresses industry trends (i.e., eCommerce sales).

The Build (Responsibilities)

 

  • Partner with the executive leadership team to understand the strategic roadmap, working with cross-functional teams to develop next generation distribution network
  • Act as the internal distribution subject matter expert, leading distribution leaders to ensure delivery of products is accomplished in a cost effective and efficient manner.
  • Develop and implement standardized and streamlined processes across network facilities; audits internal processes against industry best practices
  • Analyze market trends in distribution by studying the industry and implementing changes to ATG’s distribution facilities, infrastructure, network, and footprint
  • Create a community of practice for distribution leaders through monthly distribution reviews and other activities (i.e., trainings, conferences, etc.)
  • Own performance for Apex distribution facility including safety, quality, delivery, cost, and inventory metrics; consults all other facilities on metrics
  • Own productivity initiatives for the distribution network; partner with Operational Excellence to plan rapid improvement events and the implementation of lean methodologies and other tools (i.e., Kaizen, Lean, Value Stream Mapping, etc.)
  • Partner with internal factories and outside suppliers to enhance the effectiveness of the ADC
  • Partner with the logistics team to align on strategies, business planning and supply.
  • Partner with human resources for talent management of the distribution function, including staffing requirements, learning and development, succession planning, etc.
  • Collaborate with other departments (i.e. sales and customer service) to improve order management and shipping consolidation initiatives
     

The Toolbox (Qualifications)

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business, Supply Chain, or Engineering related discipline
  • 15 years’ experience in manufacturing and distribution environments, including a minimum of 5 years’ hands-on distribution leadership with high SKU counts
  • Experience managing a multi-site distribution network, including and executing footprint changes to optimize the distribution network
  • Experience in managing a 3PL.
  • Experience managing multiple customer channels including “big box” and eCommerce retailers
  • Experience in inventory management and accuracy, including responsibility for audit and cycle counting programs
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver productivity through formal and informational Operational Excellence programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop leadership teams and next level management through training, coaching, and exposure to new opportunities enabling others to meet or exceed peak levels and execute projects on-time and on-budget
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP (or similar ERP) and WMS systems
  • Executive presentation, interpersonal, and leadership skills
