Interns are assigned to an organization department based on background, skill set, and interests. The assignments are project-oriented, meaningful to the department, and allow for the opportunity to take responsibility for a major task. Interns experience a sense of personal accomplishment and contribution while experiencing the corporate business culture through work assignments and structured activities. Each intern assignment consists of challenging projects with specific goals, providing opportunities for personal growth and development.

The Build (Responsibilities)

The Mechanical Engineering R&D Intern will gain practical experience in engineering by applying concepts learned at the university. During this internship, the Mechanical Engineering R&D Intern will gain a deeper understanding of new and existing product development by getting involved in the stage-gate process and engaging in VA/VE activities. In addition, the Mechanical Engineering R&D Inter will experience taking a test fixture from scope definition to fully built and programmed machine. Potential project areas may include design, testing, prototyping, modeling, tooling, machining, and process improvements.  

The Toolbox (Qualifications)

  • Incoming Junior or Senior undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Microsoft Office is life ' you are a proven, proficient user of MS Office (specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Experience with CAD (Creo a plus, SolidWorks) 2D and 3D skills preferred
  • Experience with programming and sensors is a plus 
  • Think fast! You like juggling multiple projects efficiently, and you enjoy the flexibility of changing priorities
  • You produce quality work ' you comb over details and stay organized
  • Whether it' over written or in person, you communicate effectively and professionally
  • You treat all tasks and projects assigned to you with an entrepreneurial spirit ' you fully own your work and have pride in what you do
  • Previous internship or work experience preferred
